Mechanical Properties Comparison
Strength: 6061 aluminum rods in the T6 state have a tensile strength exceeding 290 MPa, high yield strength, and are suitable for high loads. 6063 aluminum rods in the T6 state have a tensile strength of approximately 180-230 MPa, lower strength but higher elongation (14%-16%), resulting in stronger impact resistance.
Corrosion Resistance: Due to fewer impurities and the absence of copper, 6063 aluminum rods exhibit better corrosion resistance than 6061, especially after anodizing, resulting in a more uniform and aesthetically pleasing surface.
Processing Characteristics
Extrusion Performance: 6063 aluminum round bars are known as the "King of Extrusion," with low deformation resistance, suitable for producing complex cross-section profiles.
Extrusion speed is 25%-30% higher than 6061. 6061 aluminum bars require higher temperatures and pressures for extrusion, making them more suitable for simple cross-section industrial parts.
Surface Treatment: 6063 aluminum rods have higher gloss (up to 85GU) after anodizing, with better color difference control; 6061 aluminum rods have stronger hard anodizing capabilities, with film thicknesses reaching over 50μm.
Machining and Welding: 6061 aluminum rods have good machinability, but require heat treatment to restore strength after welding; 6063 aluminum rods have a wider welding process window with less impact on strength.
