What Are Aluminum Circle and Aluminum Disc?
In the aluminum industry, “Aluminum Circle” and “Aluminum Disc” mean the same round aluminum sheet product.
The difference is only in regional naming habits.
They are made from aluminum alloy sheets using cutting, stamping, and finishing. They have uniform thickness, a smooth surface, and excellent formability.
These products are mainly made from 1000, 3000, and 5000 series aluminum alloys.
Thickness, diameter, and temper can be customized to meet many industrial and civilian needs.
Based on casting technology, standard products fall into two main categories.
The DC (Direct Chill) series includes DC Aluminum Circle and DC
Aluminum Disc.
The CC (Continuous Casting) series includes CC
Aluminum Circle and CC Aluminum Disc. The process difference fundamentally distinguishes their performance and application value.
In the aluminum processing industry, CC (Continuous Casting) and DC (Direct Chill Casting) mainly refer to different casting processes. These processes shape aluminum alloy slabs. They also affect the material’s microstructure, properties, and uses.
Core Differences Between DC and CC Aluminum Circle & Disc
Process Principles
CC Material: Uses twin-belt continuous casting and rolling technology. Molten aluminum cools fast between two copper belts. It then rolls directly into thin sheets. It features extremely high cooling rates and production efficiency.
DC Material: Uses semi-continuous casting (vertical casting). Molten aluminum cools in a mold and forms an ingot. The ingot then goes through hot breakdown rolling. The cooling rate is relatively slow; this is the traditional, mainstream process.
Microstructure and Properties
CC Material: Features finer grains and minimal compositional segregation, though there is a risk of internal porosity or inclusions. After cold rolling, its stamping formability is usually better than DC material. It needs less reduction to get a uniform texture.
DC Material: The ingot microstructure is coarser, requiring homogenization annealing and hot rolling to eliminate defects. It exhibits a significant texture gradient across the thickness, requiring greater reduction to eliminate anisotropy.
Application
CC Material: Mainly used for thin-gauge applications that need high surface quality and deep-drawing performance. Examples include kitchenware, beverage cans, and decorative panels.
DC Material: Widely used in sectors demanding highly stable mechanical properties, such as automotive body panels, aerospace structural components, and heavy plates.
